Good showing by SA Golf Development players at Girls Champs

The top girl players from the SA Golf Development Board (SAGDB) were in Orkney recently for the Nomads SA Girls Championship. The event is the premier tournament on the South African girls golfing calendar.

The SAGDB girls didn't disappoint, as they recorded respectable showings in all four divisions.

Monique Ramkisson was the only SAGDB player in the championship division. The youngster from KwaZulu-Natal carded rounds of 87, 83 and 87 to finish tied for 33rd place. Rushda Mallick and Kim Daniels, who are both former members of the SAGDB and are now with the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation, finished sixth and 19th respectively.

In the B-division, for players with handicaps between 10 and 18, Border's Zethu Myeki finished third after rounds of 85 and 81.

The C-division was scored on Stableford points for players with handicaps between 19 and 27. Jamie-Lee Daniels from Eastern Province ended 7th on 72 points after 36 holes. Charissa Lamprecht from the Southern Cape ended 8th on 71 points, and Boland's Vivienne Floris finished 12th on 68 points.

Jamie-Lee also received special mention from the organisers, Women's Golf South Africa (WGSA), for being the youngest player at the event. She is just nine years old and already showing promising talent.

Players with handicaps between 28 and 33 competed in the D-division of the tournament. Dionique Du Plessis from the Southern Cape finished third on 76 points from 36 holes.

Through generous support from Nomads and WGSA all the girls' costs for attending the event were covered.

About the SAGDB: Founded in 1999, the SA Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is the only body officially tasked with growing the game of golf in South Africa. The SAGDB is a non-profit organisation (with section 18A donations tax exemption status) and is fully endorsed by government and all of South Africa's official golfing bodies. Through its PGA-approved coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 3,500 children per week in ten regions. The SAGDB is sponsored by SAA, City Lodge, the Pro Shop, ProRange and ExpandaSign.
