Hole in One for 13 year old Lunga

13-year old Lunga Mqhayi achieved every golfer's dream when he carded a hole in one at a recent Junior Golf Foundation event in Ekurhuleni. The SA Golf Development Board player found the target with a 4-iron on the 16th hole at Lake Club Benoni.
The grade 8 pupil from Buhlebemfundo Secondary School in Tsakane said it was a very exciting moment for him.
"All my fellow players were happy for me," he recalls. "They clapped hands and one of them shook hands with me."
He says the experience has given his game a boost.
"I'm no longer scared to play on any golf course," he says. "I have more confidence in myself now."
Lunga's hole in one is made even more impressive by the fact that Lake Club Benoni members say the 16th is one of the most feared holes on the course.
"This is one the club's signature holes and measures 185m from the championship tees," says club representative Wesley Louth. "It is stroke index 6, with a water carry of 170m to a moderately sized green, guarded by tall evergreen trees to the right and a sharp drop off over the back. Both correct club selection and a good stroke are required to find this target. This is truly an ace to be proud of in any player's books."
Upon hearing of his achievement, the SuperGolf Hole in One Club awarded Lunga a complimentary membership. He will be receiving a personalised bag tag from the club which he will also be able to carry as a reminder of the day he hit the perfect shot.
