Top Players Showing Promise in the Free State
Over the past few years, the SA Golf Development Board (SAGDB) programme in the Free State has produced some of the board’s top players. Tumo Motaung, Makgetha Mazibuko and Tumelo Wesi all graduated from the SAGDB's Free State programme to become members of the elite Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation.
The region is continuing to show progress, as a new group of youngsters is achieving success. Sello Lebeko, Ntsoaki Mokoena and Thuto Nthuli all represented their province at age group level in 2008 and are hoping to feature again this year.
"We’re very proud that are players are getting more opportunities to play in the highest level of foundation tournaments," says the SAGDB's Free State manager, Ratha Motaung. “The top players also received new equipment, which has made a different to their performance."
Lebeko and Nthuli both played for the Free State at the u/16 inter-provincial tournament last year. They were also selected for the u/16 hexangular event.
Mokoena achieved the same in the provincial girls team. Together with Nthuli, she also featured in the Free State team that played in the Inter Governmental Games.
With continued dedication from these players and their coaches, the SAGDB hopes that they will continue their success and once again attain provincial honours in 2009.
