Development in Motherwell receives a boost from SMS
The Eastern Cape is a vital area for golf development due to the strong culture of sport that exists in the region. To support the continued growth of golf in this area, Security Management Solutions (SMS) has become the latest organisation to financially "adopt" a SA Golf Development Board (SAGDB) coaching chapter.
SMS, which is a leading off site surveillance and remote monitoring company will be covering the costs involved in running the SAGDB coaching programme in Motherwell for the coming year. This includes coaching fees and playing fees for the promising youngsters honing their talents in the area.
"We appreciate the work that the SAGDB has been doing over the years, "SMS said in a statement. "We would like to assist these programmes and, in saying this, we are proud to announce our sponsorship of 'Adopt a chapter'."
Humewood professional, Graeme van der Nest, was instrumental in setting up the sponsorship. He believes that the SAGDB is playing an important role in the growth of the game.
"The Eastern Cape has produced some fine players over the years and currently there is a healthy crop of good young SAGDB players coming through the ranks," he says. "I been the mentor coach for all the coaches of the SAGDB's Eastern Cape Division for the past two years and have truly enjoyed working closely with them all. Their enthusiasm and passion to teach the kids in their own areas is incredible and when you understand the conditions that they have to teach in, you too will take your hat off to them!"
Van der Nest believes that the contribution from SMS will go a long way towards ensuring the children in the programme receive the best possible chance to develop their skills.
"We want to provide the children in this particular chapter with consistent, high-quality golf lessons," he says. "I would also like to improve the golfing and coaching techniques of the SAGDB coaches and this sponsorship will make that possible too."
