Millie Excels in Paris
The SA Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is not only proud of the achievements of its players, but also its managers and coaches. Recently, the SAGDB;s development manager for Border, Millie Zim, provided a fine reminder of the calibre of men and women that take care of development at grassroots level.
Millie was the women's winner at the South African national finals of this year's Peugot Challenge Cup. By winning the countrywide competition, she earned the right to represent South Africa at the Peugot International Pro-Am 2009 in Paris.
Together with the national men's winner, Admund Gelderbloem from George Golf Club, Millie was defending the title won by the South African team in 2008. It was a challenge that the two players were more than up to.
Over the two day event featuring teams from 11 countries, Millie and her partner secured a 15-shot victory over the second placed Chilean team in the gross event. The teams' nett scores were tied.
"We went there to defend the SA title and we did exactly that," Millie said on her return home. "We brought back the trophy and lots of prizes. I would like to thank everybody who supported me and encouraged me in preparation for the tournament."
The SAGDB is immensely proud of Millie's achievement. Her success on the golf course is a constant source of encouragement to the children in the Border programme and proof of the opportunities that the game can offer.
