Sello aims high

16-year old Sello Lebeko is one of the top players in the SA Golf Development Board (SAGDB) programme in the Free State. His dedication to the sport is bringing him high rewards.

The youngster from Bloemfontein, who currently plays of a 1 handicap, was selected for the Free State u/16 team to compete at the hexangular inter-provincial event in Port Elizabeth in September. He has also been picked to compete in the SA Junior Golf Foundation's u/16 National Order of Merit event in October.

"Sello has consistently earned provincial selection - he represented Free State at u/14 level in 2007 and u/16 level last year," said the SAGDB's development manager in the Free State, Ratha Motaung. 'He's been with our programme for five years now, and he is destined for a bright future in golf."

Motaung says that Sello has a good all round game. He is a member at Schoeman Park GC, where he receives coaching from SAGDB development coach Joseph Mojapela.

Sello, who is currently in grade 9 at Tsoseletso High School, lives in a single parent household with his mother and younger sister. He is another example of how the SAGDB has brought the game of golf to talented youngsters who would not otherwise have the chance to enjoy the sport.
