An initiative led by well-known South African professional John Bland and his wife Sonja has collected clubs and clothes from tour players and donated them to the youngsters in the region.

The top players from the SA Golf Development Board (SAGDB) programme in the Southern Cape gave a strong showing of their ability at the recent Southern Cape Junior Golf Foundation event at Riversdal. SAGDB players won four of the nine prizes on the day.

Four SA Golf Development Board (SAGDB) players have taken the chance offered to them by selection to the KZN President's Team to prove their potential as future stars. 16-year old Sanele Khoza from Newcastle, 15-year old Siyanda Mwandla from Umhlali, 16-year old Kwanele Mkhoma from Port Shepstone and 17-year old Sphelele Mbokazi from Umhlali have all been part of an impressive performance from the 8-player team in the KZN Central Scratch League.

| Two former SAGDB players selected for SA Universities |

Cedric Rooi and Jacquin Hess are two of the SA Golf Development Board's (SAGDB's) top flag bearers. The two players from Boland have continued to perform admirably since their graduation from the national coaching programme a few years ago and have now been rewarded with selection to the six-player South African Universities team.

One of the SA Golf Development Board's brightest young talents in the Boland, Keelan Africa, is having to learn quickly about competing at a higher level. The 14-year old from Worcester recently competed for his province in the u/16 triangular inter-provincial at Riverside Golf Club that also included teams from Western Province and the Southern Cape.

About the SAGDB
The SAGDB is a non-profit organisation (with section 18A donations tax exemption status). Through its PGA-approved coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 1,500 children per week in nine areas. The SAGDB is sponsored by SAA, City Lodge and ProRange.
