Learning curve for Keelan at Triangular

Keelan Africa recently competed in the triangular inter-provincial event at the Riverside Golf Club

One of the SA Golf Development Board's brightest young talents in the Boland, Keelan Africa, is having to learn quickly about competing at a higher level. The 14-year old from Worcester recently competed for his province in the u/16 triangular inter-provincial at Riverside Golf Club that also included teams from Western Province and the Southern Cape.

Despite being one of the youngest members of his eight-man team, Keelan was seeded third.

Unfortunately, he found the event very tough, losing together with his partner in both the better ball and foursomes matches on day one. However, he bounced back on the second day, claiming victory in one of his singles matches and narrowly losing the second two-and-one.

"Being selected for this team represented Keelan's first big milestone," said the SAGDB's manager for Boland, Andre Rossouw. "He is improving rapidly, and being exposed to this level will only encourage him more."

Overall, Keelan's Border team managed a total of just 25 events over the two days. Western Province won the event with 36 points, narrowly followed by Southern Cape on 35 points.
