The SAGDB operates in 9 of the 14 provincial unions of South Africa.
The advantage our development programme holds over many others, is its longevity. A child usually enters our programme around the age of eight, and the performers remain within the programme until the age of 18. On average, a child receives 5 years' investment into his/her personal, social and golf development from the SAGDB. The moral values and social skills they gain will stand them in good stead for the rest of their lives.
The structured coaching programme keeps them "off the streets" and exposes them to a different set of values and principles. These children develop to become positive and stable role models in their own communities because of the discipline they learn through the game.
Further, we create employment opportunities by appointing coaches from local communities who understand the children's social background, language and unique situations.
Description
Our programme is scheduled to coach a specific group twice a week, to ensure truly valuable coaching interactions with each child. Coaching takes place on a school sports field or at a golf club. The learners are taken from basic golf introduction to mastering specific strokes and ultimately on to course play, etiquette and club memberships.
"Elite" players (those who show talent) are given advanced coaching three to four times a week by a head coach. On a monthly basis, we expose these children to course play through a mashie coaching session, and different regions compete against each other in a SAGDB tournament to expose them to competitions and different courses.
The talented players that are selected to compete at junior provincial level through the SA Junior Golf Foundation are supported financially and with travel arrangements, accommodation and equipment. These are our real success stories, and we do everything in our power to make sure that they do not lack anything when competing against their peers.
Coaching Strategy objectives:

- Outcome and result driven
- Structured and clearly defined
- Continued evaluation ensuring efficient performance evaluation
